Why is the treatment of eczema so important?

Left untreated, eczema can lead to more serious skin conditions as well as psychological stress

Eczema, actually a type of dermatitis, is a skin condition that can lead to psychological distress, depending on the part of the body affected. Moreover, if left untreated, eczema can progress to more serious problems. An acute case of eczema can become chronic, making it more difficult to treat the condition. The itchy feeling grows and grows, and frequent scratching can harm the protective layers of the skin. Bacteria then enter the skin, causing infection. Viral infections are also possible, some simply annoying and some actually dangerous, e.g. Eczema herpeticatum. Generally, the important thing to keep in mind is early and effective treatment, to the extent possible. If addressed properly, eczema can usually be brought completely under control, and chronic eczema, i.e. chronic dermatitis, can be prevented.

What is the actual cause of eczema?

Eczema is a group of inflammatory skin conditions that lead to skin redness and swelling. Eczema is not contagious. It is actually among the most common skin problems, wherein between 3% and 20% of people suffer with this condition, depending on the time of year. The likelihood that everyone will experience eczema at some point in their lives is almost 100%. The progression of the skin condition can differ greatly from person to person, from very mild cases to serious cases that affect larger areas of the body. An acute eczema reaction begins with some skin reddening. As it worsens, small or large blisters may form that are filled with fluid and intensely itchy. The blisters often break and weep, and then the area dries and forms a crust. This whole process can occur even if contact with a trigger occurs just once. Finally the crust flakes off before the eczema heals completely. However if the irritation continues, the eczema does not heal and the condition becomes chronic. The skin reactions (redness, blistering, crust and flaking) all occur simultaneously, and if left untreated, can require months or even years to heal until the physiologically protective function of the skin is again regenerated.

The causes of eczema (i.e. dermatitis) are external (exogenous) triggers like allergens (allergic contact dermatitis) or toxic substances (toxin contact eczema). There may be also be internal (endogenous) triggers, though the aetiology is often more psychological. In summary, eczema either results from allergen or toxin exposure, which causes skin inflammation. This results in tiny defects in the skin, making the barrier permeable. Bacteria can then enter the damaged skin, which in turn produce so-called enterotoxins. This intensifies the inflammatory reaction. The crucial factors in the development of eczema is skin inflammation and the entry of allergens and bacteria into the skin.

Why do I have eczema (dermatitis) now?

Specific irritants and as well as stress can bring about a case of eczema or make existing symptoms worse. This can trigger intense itching and skin redness, which can quickly develop into eczema. Among these irritants (allergens or toxic substances) are artificial additives in cosmetics, skincare products, soaps, foods, some medications (antibiotics, contraceptives, pain relievers), sunburn, excess sweating, alcohol, nicotine and stress. Anyone with eczema ought to avoid these factors that put a strain on the skin to the extent possible. A well-known manifestation of such exposure is so-called perioral dermatitis, which is a reddening of the face around the mouth resulting from excessive skincare with the wrong skincare products.

What can I proactively do about eczema?

The important this is starting to treat this skin conditions as soon as possible, and it is also important to eliminate the triggering factors that might lead to one developing eczema. In the case of contact eczema, the question is what substance did you touch before the rash appeared. Contact with that substance can then be avoided in the future. Naturally, skin exposure to toxins should always be avoided. Diet can also play a significant role in the susceptibility of the skin to developing eczema. Moreover, the use of skincare products with artificial ingredients can also irritate the skin (you can read more about this on our “Proper Skincare” page). These measures are also important in the prevention of eczema. To address acute or chronic cases of eczema, you should use our proven mineral mask over a period of at least two weeks.

The dual-effectiveness of our mineral masks

First, the mineral mask frees even the deeper layers of the skin from accumulated toxic substances (deep cleansing). This is a result of increased circulation and the stimulation of the metabolism of the skin in the area being treated. Second, the inflammation and bacteria that lead to irritation, and eczema in more serious cases, is addressed in a targeted way. Additionally, the mineral masks both normalise and optimise the skin’s metabolic processes. Properly functioning metabolism helps the skin to remain in balance over the long term while maintaining its resilience.

Mineral Mask

Fight eczema in a 100% pure and natural way!

This is how the mineral mask works against eczema

The mineral mask is a wet and creamy mask that is normally applied to the face, though it can actually be used for any area of the skin in need of treatment. The primary ingredient in the mineral mask is Gossendorf natural fango, which is only found in a formerly volcanic region of Styria, a province in the south-east of Austria. The location where this clay is found is a protected area, and it is handled with utmost care throughout processing. In addition, the mineral mask contains special plant essences. After gently washing, a thin layer of the mineral mask is applied to the skin and allowed to work for about 20 minutes, then it is rinsed off with lukewarm water. For a more detailed description of how to use Bentomed, please see the package insert.

1. Deep-down skin cleaning (freeing the skin of accumulated toxins)

The mineral-rich natural fango clay contained in the mineral masks pulls accumulating toxins from the skin like a sponge. The metabolism of the skin is stimulated by increasing local circulation, meaning that waste product and toxins present in the deeper layers of the skin is transported to the surface and removed. This deep skin cleansing forms the foundation of the treatment. The effectiveness is noticeable from the very start as the skin looks and feels both more clean and more soft. Some may notice that the skin initially seems more dry, but this is actually a normal and desirable effect of the mineral mask treatment.

2. Fighting inflammation and preventing the development of eczema

The natural fango clay that the mineral masks contain works to regulate the functioning of the skin. It normalises the protective barrier of the skin and prevents fine cracks from forming, which can allow the entry of bacteria. In this way, the eczema that so commonly develops along with the related skin irritation can effectively be prevented. This in turn frees up the skin for the absorption of essential minerals and helpful enzymes that are also contained in the mineral masks. These fight any inflammation that is present, and they have been shown to neutralise the enterotoxins from bacteria already present in the skin. The sulphur contained in our natural fango is of crucial importance as it functions as a natural way to rid the body of inflammation and toxin. These effects can be seen in the way the mineral masks sometimes cause a crust to slowly form over areas of skin affected by eczema – healthy skin cells are encouraged to grow underneath. After some time, the crust falls off revealing the new skin tissue.

3. Normalising skin metabolism and providing nourishing plant essences

The minerals and trace elements found in the mineral masks bring about a lasting regulation of the metabolism of the skin. When the skin is functioning properly, it can more fully expel unhealthy substances from the body, both organic and inorganic. In addition, the mineral masks also contain nurturing plant oil essences that sooth the skin and encourage proper hydration.

Our recommendation for eczema

A mineral mask is to be applied to affected areas of skin, for example the face or the neck as well the inside of the elbows or knees or any other part of the body. For use on the scalp, we recommend thinning the mineral mask with a small amount of water before massaging it into the skin.
We recommend using the mineral mask once per day, ideally in the evening, over a period of two weeks. For more stubborn cases, we recommend pausing for a week and then repeating the two week treatment. TIP: For extended use, or if a large area of skin is in need of care, order the reduced-price double package and enjoy free delivery at the same time. You’ll find detailed instructions for use in the package insert.
